Media personality Toke Makinwa comes under attack over NYU lecture
Toke Makinwa has become a subject of controversy over her reported invitation as a guest lecturer at the New York University (NYU).
The media personality who is expected to give an address on "Building a Successful Brand in the Digital space" was questioned by fans regarding the authenticity of the NYU visit.
An Instagram user ID 'mr_so_made_rich' who is also known as Richard Somade asked the book author to indicate the location where she would be giving her lecture but wasn't the bit satisfied with her response.
"Hey Toke, let's know which room the lecture is taking place and the time. Some of us here at NYU School of Law will like to listen to your lecture," he wrote.
Makinwa referred the inquisitive fan to Lilian Ajayi, a professor in the institution for information concerning her planned address.
This proved to be unsatisfactory leading to a series of probing remarks from the fans.
Toke Makinwa promotes memoir, On Becoming, in the UK
A response from Ajayi who stated "@tokemakinwa We are excited to have you on campus today. This is a closed event and not open to the public" only sparked more controversy concerning the subject.
Another IG user, 'achalugo.nwanyi' insisted that the OAP makes correction regarding her earlier comment informing her fans that she will be giving a lecture at NYU.
According to her, she is only addressing a class not the entire campus.
She wrote, "I'm confused as well @mr_so_made_rich . I am a student at NYU and I totally agree with you. Toke is probably speaking at @lilianajayi 's class. (Lilian is an adjunct professor I at NYU SPS).
"That's normal because even students speak at classes across the school. Not a Big Deal.
"People are calling out Toke because she made it seem like she's speaking to the general NYU Audience (this is a BIG DEAL) given to people of certain repute such as Global Execs, Presidents, PMs etc. So Biko, Toke should correct her statement. No hate! Just facts!"
