Former council boss, Augustine Nnamani emerges Enugu PDP chairman

former Isi-Uzo Local Government council boss, Augustine Nnamani has emerged the new chairman, Enugu State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Nnamani is from Enugu-East senatorial zone, whereas the immediate past chairman is from Enugu-North.
Also elected at the congress held at Okpara Square Enugu, is the state secretary, Cletus Akalusi and other members of the state executive committee.

Addressing the delegates, the State governor, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi and the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu expressed happiness that there was now genuine peace and harmony within stakeholders of the party in the state. Ugwuanyi said, “I wish to congratulate all elected officials of our party at all levels, and I’m sure you will approach your duty with due commitment, zeal and favor. “The task before you is the repositioning and strengthening of our great party especially in the light of the fact that we are now in the opposition in the federal level is one that you must indeed discharge without fail. “It calls for unity and commonality of purpose of all party members; I can’t thank you all enough for a united family. We must all rally round the new party executive that we have elected today and give it the support it requires to move the party forward. “We also expected the executive to give all party members the opportunity to make their contributions to the progress of the party for everyone must . his part and everyone is important”. The Deputy Senate President, Ekweremadu on his part stated that the new executive was lucky because it was coming at a time when there is unity among major stakeholders of the party in the state, unlike his predecessors whose time were characterized by divisions between the governors then and the Abuja-based politicians or other party leaders. “Let me explain, with due respect to my friend Egungbe, he was our first chairman, and then we had the Nwodo, Jim Nwobodo, Chimaroke factions; when Nwanjoku became the chairman we had the Abuja group and the Enugu group; and when my brother and friend Vitta Abba became the chairman, we had the Sullivan group and Ekweremadu group. But today, we only have the Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi group in Enugu state,” he stated. In an acceptance speech, the new chairman of the party, Nnamani thanked all party leaders and faithful for electing him and his new executive without ranccour. “As you have unanimously elected me to pilot the affairs of our Party, the PDP, in Enugu State, as the Chairman, I hereby accept this responsibility with all sense of humility and commitment in consonance with the sound vision and mission of the Leader of our Party in the State, Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi. “I commit myself and my leadership to the laudable programmes and policies of his administration, which were carefully designed to impact positively on the lives of our people and give them a sense of belonging. “I will work with other Party officials at the Ward, Local Government Area and State levels, to further strengthen and reposition our Party for the challenges ahead in view of our status as an opposition Party at the national level,” he pledged. The electoral officer from the PDP national secretariat, Alhaji Ibrahim Bashir had earlier commended party faithful for the peaceful conduct of the ward and local government congresses in the state, coupled with the level of maturity and peaceful conduct displayed at the state congress.
